Client Overview

Subway is one of the world’s most recognised quick-service restaurant (QSR) brands, with over 1,000 locations across Australia and New Zealand. While operating under a unified brand, each location is managed by independent franchisees, creating a unique challenge for centralised control and local flexibility. Subway required a scalable, future-proof digital signage solution that maintained brand consistency while empowering individual stores.

The Challenge

Subway was transitioning away from its previous signage provider and needed a full-scale migration that would not disrupt day-to-day operations. The project involved over 450 locations and 2,000+ screens that needed to be moved to a new content management system (CMS) quickly and efficiently. It was essential to deliver:

  • A consistent, HQ-controlled brand experience
  • Localised pricing and menu flexibility for franchisees
  • Digital menu boards with seamless integration with existing point-of-sale (POS) and menu management systems

Our Approach

Amped Digital executed a national deployment strategy with speed, precision, and zero compromise on quality. The team led a full transition to System-on-Chip (SoC) displays, paired with the Signagelive CMS, within record time. The migration process focused on:

  • Deploying a field team across AU/NZ to handle on-site migrations
  • Building custom integrations with Menuzen
  • Seamlessly syncing with Subway’s POS infrastructure to enable real-time pricing and menu updates

Dynamic Pricing and Real-Time Menu Control

The integrated solution now allows store owners to manage their pricing dynamically while HQ retains control over menu design and promotional assets. Thanks to the Signagelive + Menuzen integration:

  • Franchisees can adjust prices in real-time based on location, demand, or stock.
  • Head Office can streamline menu design, compliance and scheduling from a single dashboard.
  • The time between menu ideation and deployment has been reduced by over 75%.

Implementation Highlights

  • Completed the migration of 450+ sites in record time (within 3 months) with minimal disruption.
  • Unified over 2,000+ screens into a centralised, scalable CMS ecosystem.
  • Delivered consistent branding while enabling local control.
  • Developed a structured support model with real-time monitoring and system health checks.

Why It Matters

This rollout showcases Amped Digital’s ability to deliver complex, large- scale signage projects with precision. Our understanding of franchise dynamics and enterprise integration enabled Subway to unlock both consistency and control, a blend critical for QSR success.

Looking Ahead

Subway’s new digital signage ecosystem is future-ready, scalable and primed for further innovation, including potential AI enhancements to menu logic, promotional take overs and predictive content adjustments.
