Rottnest Salt Store

Located in the centre of the Thomson Bay Settlement, the Salt Store is one of the oldest buildings on Rottnest Island. Constructed by Aboriginal prisoners in 1868, the Salt Store was originally used to hold the bagged salt collected from two of Rottnest Island’s salt lakes. Today, the venue is primarily used as a gallery space and hosts a variety of unique exhibitions.

Challenges

Rottnest Island wanted to create an interactive touch screen to display historical photographs and content exploring the Colonial, Aboriginal, maritime and military history of the Island. The screen would be situated in the Salt Store gallery space and needed to be informative and easy to use for a variety of visitors, while managing a large amount of content.

Our Solution

We worked with a variety of stakeholders and departments to achieve the required components, and delivered an easy to use interface design that fits with Rottnest Island’s existing branding.
